About Reuben Argel, Escrima Instructor
Since 1999, Reuben Argel has been a student of Escrima, learning from Punong Guro Pat Amantiad, as well as Guro Eric Padilla, Guro Ed Aranita, and Guro Roger Wong at the Hawaii Filipino Martial Arts School (HFMAS) in Honolulu, Hawaii. He has spent a lifetime studying many disciplines of martial arts, but is most passionate about Filipino Martial Arts, its history, and traditions.
Reuben is continuing these teachings through Escrima workshops and classes for the Tacoma Chapter of HFMAS. He also takes pride in teaching the art to his daughters, Abigail and Amelia.
About Hawaii Filipino Martial Arts School
The Hawaii Filipino Martial Arts School (HFMAS) is dedicated to teaching the Filipino martial arts of Kali and Escrima. We believe in a holistic approach to teaching the arts. Our teachings encompass not only the physical aspects of the arts, but also the history and philosophy behind them. We also focus on developing mental and physical discipline as well as encouraging spiritual and moral growth. HFMAS welcomes students of all religious, ethnic, and martial arts backgrounds. The founder of HFMAS, Punong Guro Pat Amantiad, has trained with many of the top martial arts masters in Hawaii. He has had the honor of studying under Black Belt Hall of Fame Instructor Master Dan Inosanto, who is the founder of the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts. HFMAS martial arts styles are also influenced by the teachings of the legendary Kali Grandmaster Floro Villabrille. HFMAS members train in the Filipino martial arts, as well as participate in demonstrations, parades, and tournaments. HFMAS is also a member of Hawaii Organization of Pilipino Eskrima (HOPE) and participates in joint events with other member schools.
